The Canadian Union of Postal Workers strike initiated on November 15, 2024, has negatively impacted Judiciary operations in terms of check disbursements and Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC) mail bound for Canada. The U.S. Postal Service temporarily suspended international mail destined for Canada. In response, the U.S. Treasury temporarily withheld Judiciary checks scheduled for mailing to Canada between December 4-6, 2024. To minimize the risk of loss, stolen, or comprised checks, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts initiated a cancellation process for all non-negotiated checks issued between November 15 and December 3, 2024. These payments will be reissued at a later date via alternate means. The BNC is also suspending mail service to Canada at this time. Undelivered mail that was already sent by the BNC to Canada is being held at the Canadian/United States border, stored in secured containers, and will not be delivered to intended recipients until after the postal strike has concluded. The BNC contractor has begun to gather information on impacted notices and will share that information with the courts as it becomes available. This announcement will be updated accordingly.
