Warning - Installment Payment Solicitation Scam

Wednesday, February 25, 2026

The Court Services Office of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts received a recent report of debtors in bankruptcy cases being contacted by a phone number appearing to be from the local bankruptcy court, otherwise known as “spoofing," asking the debtor for an installment payment via Zelle. If you have received such a call, please take no action - this is a scam. Filing fees are only payable to the Clerk of Court and may not be paid by debtors through a payment service, such as Zelle. Consult the Fees page of this website for more information about how to make a payment.

Attorneys representing debtors: Please share this warning with your clients as self-represented debtors may not be the only targets of this scam.
